dd-wrt router 3rd party

Hi,

I have a Belkin router. Belkin AC1200 Dual-Band Gigabit Router model F9K1113 v4 I have windows 10 and I'm on a hard wired connection. I have a 100 mbit connection through Comcast. My Question is If I go out and buy a router that is dd-wrt compliant. Will it make a difference with my connection in terms of making the connection more secure because of the built in security that comes with the 3rd party dd-wrt firmware? Also will it make any difference with throughput in terms of faster access into websites. Will it make any difference in terms of making things I download on torrent faster?Meaning an increase ion bandwidth? Basically I just would Like to know if 3rd party firmware is more for wireless connections?

What is pfsense? And thank you for this info. What would the more features that a 3rd party firmware actually do then, if none of the more features would increase my speed in any way. Or increase my security. What would the more features actually do??
