i have a few choices for ram, but not many, and they suck a bit. i want xp pro 32 bit untill vista has good service pack out.

so my limited choices on factory ram that they can install there are:

2x1gig ddr2 800 (x2)
2gig ddr2 667 (x2)
2x2gig ddr2 667 (x1)

will 667 hurt my overall performance? it sucks that they only provide useless memory there...all i want to know is which one will work best with the q6600.... i dont want to spend a lot on the system and slow it all down with the wrong ram

thanks for any advise

i would be getting 4 gig either way....

so you still say 2x2 667 is better than 2x1 800 (x2)??

i dont really need or want to overclock, i just want to get the right speed of ram, and i have been checking the forums but the answers are mind boggling for me

i dont understand the fsb equation....
i'll prob get the 2x2 667, but really dont want to find out down the road that i got completely the wrong type for my gpu or mb.

2x2gb DDR2 667 > 2x1GB DDR2 800 > 2x1GB DDR2 667 ,if u dont want to OC , go for 2x2GB DDR2 667

also, is it better to split the 4 gig into 2 on 2 modules, or 4gig (2x2) split between the two modules? does that make sense? i think they call them 'memory cards' on the website

i found some 2x2 ddr2 800 that i can use

should i use this with xp 32 bit, or should i just stick in 2gig 800 (2x1)?

All you really need right now is 2G of ram, unless you are going to be using this machine for video editing. Not video playing but video editing. 667 will do you if you are not going to OC beyond 3G/1333. Get 2 one gig sticks and run them in dual channel. XP32 can only make use of a around 3.25G, give or take. Add additional ram if you ever go to Vista 64.

I use 4 gig of ram but I have been useing 64bit OS for about 2 year's now first XP pro64bit and then just lately Vista 64bit Ultra. So 4 gig of memory is grate. Forget about the Shuttle MB unless it' in a special app like a little box and you need a much beter psu for that quad. BA
