DDR mobo

Any idea when AMD 760 DDR motherboards from Asus or other big manuf. will be availible.

Last thing I heard was Q1 though that might have been pesimistic.. I should think AMD would want all the "old" 1.2 Ghz out to market first. I know they've been available in stores fer some weeks atleast, but still AMD wants to sell as many 200mhz bus speed processors bfr christmas and rather start pushing 266mhz processors in Q1. Hence the mobos won't be available bfr the processor is.. I don't think AMD would want to do the same hype as Intel has with it's P4, like the story at the Registre.co.uk where some ppl have bought insanely expensive P4's but there's not a mobo to support it yet..

In that case, are there likely to be any 'transition' motherboards that can accept the new DDR SDRAM cards.

I am looking to build a system from scratch and don't want to splash out on a KT7 + PC133 RAM when it will be out of date within 6 months.

I really would love to be up and running for christmas.

Yours impatiently, Dan

There are no motherboards with DDR support yet. Not until Q1'2001 most likely. However, DDR memory is currently on the market. I wonder if it is possible to run it on our current systems as you can do PC133 on a 100mhz bus system. IT's definately something to check into. If you can run the DDR memory, pick up the DDR memory and an ABIT KT7 board. that way you only have to replace the motherboard and not the whole system.

The DDR dimms are not compatible with SDR dimms. The DDR dimms contain more pins and only have one notch. They will only work in a DDR board.

How about Micron Millenium Max XP(I am not sure the exact name)? But I think it offers reasonable price with 266MHz FSB.

Biostar and Gigabyte have DDR boards available. Go to www.pricewatch.com and do a search for "AMD 760". They are currently priced at $169. The use the AMD 760 chipset (obviously). However, you may have a problem finding DDR RAM which is a little harder to find. I've been searching for days and still haven't found any. Good luck.
