It's been about 6 years since I've built a new computer and finally the time is (almost) here. I'm not sure what ram would be the best for the qx9650 processor. DDR3 is in its infancy stages, correct? Do you guys think it would be better to go with some cheaper low-mid range DDR2 and then upgrade to DDR3 when it gets better?

the qx9650 processor
LoL - you can buy 5 or 6 Q6600 CPUs for that price!
For you then, kortex, DDR3 all the way.
Something really new and top-dollar (for consistency...)
What d'you think guys - is this CPU's time not yet here?
Regards

I appreciate your reply, but maybe I want the extra cache? I'd have posted on the CPU board if wanted help with my chip. Thanks for the reply though.

personally, I just strip the ddr4 out of video cards and use that as my system memory. I am using about 16 gigs of it and it's 2 million times faster that way.

2 million times .005 nanosecond....would be about .002 seconds.
(just kidding)

GDDR3 memory transfers 4 bits of data per pin in 2 clock cycles and
32-bit 512-Mibit GDDR4 SDRAM rated at 4.0 Gbit/s per pin or 16 GB/s
The great thing about GDDR4 is power efficiency: running at 2.4 Gbit/s, it uses 45% less power when compared to GDDR3 chips running at 2.0 Gbit/s.
