DDR2 RAM pc2 question

im going to buy two new sticks of RAM (2x2GB DDR2) for my laptop. However whwn i went to buy it, it says "PC2-6300 PC2-6400" and i know the two RAM sticks have to be identical. I was wondering if i bought this
1) would it work
2) does it mean 1 stick is PC2-6300 and the other is PC2-6400

ive never heard of pc6300.there is a pc5300 laptop ram,but the pc6400 is the faster of the two.both those ram sticks say pc6400 so i wouldnt worry.they will work just fine.

thanks man! i just didnt want to waste my money on something that doesnt work. Do you think they could work fine in a comp aswell?

actually looking closer,that ram is desktop ram and likely wont work in a laptop.there is a difference in size and pin layout between the two.desktop ram is called dimm ram while laptop ram is called sodimm ram.what amazon is advertising is dimm or desktop ram.

Memory is not interchangeable between laptops and desktops, the sockets are physically different. That said, there are a very small number (count on one hand) of desktop motherboards designed to take laptop memory.

What you need for a laptop is 200pin ddr2 pc2 6400 (800MHz) laptop/notebook memory, not desktop. Desktop memory is long and skinny, laptop memory is shorter and taller. Pretty much rule of thumb is they are not interchangeable.
The add from Amazon was for desktop memory, search for laptop memory instead. There is a 2x2Gb set from Crucial that's good at £45

You need some laptop memory, not the kind you use for PC motherboards.
