[SOLVED] DDR4 2x8GB but now adding 1x 4GB ok ?

I currently have:
850watt PSU
Ryzen 2600x
1660ti GPU
SSD 1TB
TUF-b450m+
2x8GB DDR4 RAM 3600hz
Although the RAM only runs at a slightly lower frequency, not too worried about that.

My concern is, I want to add more DDR4 RAM though in 1 yr I will be building a whole new PC, in the meantime I only want to upgrade 1stick for cheap.

Can I upgrade 1x4gb DDR4, 3000hz ?
or 1x8GB DDR4 3600hz ?
currently, the 2x8 are in dual channel staggered slots, Slot 2 and Slot 4. I believe that s the correct way.
So If I add only one RAM stick in Slot 1 or 3 with only 4GB or 8GB will it run ok ?

Why? 20GB is not necessarily better than 16GB.

It may not work, at all.

Mixing ANY ram is a crapshoot.

Unless it all comes out of the same box, it may not work.
