ddr4 3000mhz cl15 for i5 8400

I'm getting a ram for my build, I was about to buy the corsair vengeance 2x8 2666mhz since I know thats the higher memory speed that the i5 8400(my CPU) supports , but I found the vengeance led 2x8 3000mhz cl15 in a cheaper price(and better looks),I know that my CPU is going to downlock the speed to 2666, my question is : It is going to be any issue of compatibility or something like that, if I install the 3000mhz one?

My mobo says that supports up to 2666mhz memory

Intel CPUs can typically handle the higher memory frequencies such as 3000MHz and 3200MHz. You would need to focus more on the motherboard chipset you are going to be using. Intel Z-series motherboards allow memory overclocking, and anything past 2666MHz is overclocked on a 300 series chipset motherboard with CPUs that are rated for 2666MHz memory.

If you were to go with an H or B series motherboard, it would be limited to 2666MHz; actually, you would likely have to set the speed manually to 2666 else it would default to 2133. Leaving the timings on Auto would lower them (lower timings equals quicker memory readings), so there is that benefit of having lower timings. CL = Cas Latency = timing.

I do not think there would be any compatibility issue, except that if you had an H310 or B360 you would not be able to enable XMP, but would instead be required to manually set memory to run at 2666MHz.

It should, but as with most motherboards and RAM it will default to 2133 until you go in to bios and adjust it to 2666. It is better RAM, I would go ahead and get it if I were buying.
