[SOLVED] DDR4 Ram ?

Hi my board only takes up to 2400mhz ram and i have just found that my ram i have installed is 3200mhz ram and running at 2133mhz - my question is why is it not running at 2400mhz and if i buy 2x16gb ddr4 2400mhz ram will it run at the correct 2400mhz ?

My ram at moment : DDR4 corsair 4x4gb 3200mhz
morherboard : B250M-Gaming 3

I have a i7 6700k - i have tried enabling xmp in bios but still it reads 2133mhz - i know the ram is 3200mhz and my board only goes up to 2400mhz but just cant understand why its reading 2133mhz - im looking at buying the correct ram which is 2400mhz just wondered if that would change it ?
my motherboard manual says : Supports 7th/ 6th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors

You have a 6th gen cpu. Take a look at the spec on the motherboard website, it only supports 2400/XMP with 7th gen CPU’s.

ah right so the i7 is a 6th gen cpu ? - so i was looking at getting more ram as in 32gb instead of the 16gb i have now - so what do i look for corsair 2133mhz ddr4 ram ? if you have a link that would be great this is a bit new to me ?

RAM is best bought and used as a matched kit. If you want 32gb it is best to get a 2x16gb kit.

Yes. That RAM is on the support list for the motherboard.

So if i was to get 2400mhz would that work for now at 2133mhz reason being when i upgrade the cpu the ram will then run at its proper speed of 2400mhz ?

Yes it should work. At the stock 2133mhz it should be unlikely to have issues even if it’s not on the support list.

Ram speed difference between 2133mhz and 2400mhz is not humanly perceivable. May be only in benchmarks.
I wouldn't worry about that.

So last question can i get a motherboard that will take my i7 6700k and will support the 4x4gb 3200mhz ram sticks i have ?

Sure.
Any Z170 or Z270 board can do that (except some mITX models with 2 ram slots).

6th gen Intel only runs at 2133. It doesn't matter what the actual rated speed of the RAM is.

That’s correct. On a z170 motherboard, and not only Asus, any brand
