DDR4 vs Z97

So my asus rampage 3 extreme has just died and I decided to upgrade. I will be rolling for a asus maximus z97 formula with the waterblock on mofset and a 4790k as I think the ddr4 is too much expensive. Should I go for DDR4 or z97?

Mainly its gaming rig with overclocking intentions.

You can't even get ddr4 slots on a z97 board i think but anyways, ddr4 isn't needed at all for gaming, good old 8gb is fine

Haswell and Broadwell only support DDR3. If you want DDR4, your only option would be Haswell-E on LGA2011-3... so add another $150-200 to the price tag on top of the RAM there.

I was thinking of a 5820k, also Should I wait before getting a new gpu for the 9 series and 290x predecessor ?

For gaming only the x99 and ddr4 is not needed at all and yes, wise to wait

Better wait then, I am getting a z97 asus maximus vi formula for the watercooling of the mofset and a 4790k but when it comes to gpu I am facing lots of doubts whether to wait and continue running with a gtx 660 as I am going to spend round 650$ for a gpu and a waterblock and If I get a 290x basically I would be getting a gpu which has been out for a year on the market.

fine decided, in xmas I get a 980 or the best single gpu card and for now get a 4790k and a mobo.It won't take too long to install that gpu as I can always reuse same coolant. Thanks a lot guys. When it comes to gpu I should wait before buying who knows, perhaps amd are going to release the 390x.
