Dead fan on new GPU :(

Hey everyone, I recently bought a Powercolor PCS+ R9 390 GPU from newegg, but unfortunately the fan closest to the edge of the case was DOA, the other two are working however.

I do not want to RMA my card because that essentially means I'll be out of a computer for a month, the ambient temperature in my house in addition to my decent case means the GPU stays cool enough for light operation with just 2 fans, however obviously this causes problems when the device is put under stress.

The Powercolor support people were essentially no help, all they can seem to tell me are pre-written responses that they are copy-pasting telling me to RMA the GPU, when I explicitly told them I don't want to do that.

My question is, can I replace this fan without buying an entirely new cooling solution? I would much rather spend 10 dollars on a fan than 80-100 on a new cooling setup, but I will do that if push comes to shove. I will not RMA the GPU. I am aware this will void the warranty.

You could try and find a replacement fan on Ebay. But good luck with that.
You might as well RMA the card before the warranty runs out and if your CPU has integrated graphics then you could use that until you get your card back.
Sorry about that bit of bad luck though.

Thanks for the response but like I said I will buy a whole new cooling set-up before I deal with powercolor's RMA department, it will be months before I get my GPU back and that's not acceptable for me.

Hi, are you sure that your gpu cooler fan is dead how you check it?Do you remove it?If not remove it in your gpu card and try to move the fan manually using your hand. Check also that there are no burn parts. Because you said dead. Now if there no burn parts, clean it and lubricate that fan. There are tiny hole on the center of the fan, use a machine oil grease to lubricate that fan. If you try it in your cpu, remove the cable of your HDD so that it will not affected during test. Now if that fan still no circulation. You need to buy a new fan, it is available in computer store in your area.

Well Arctic Cooling sells some aftermarket gpu coolers: https://www.arctic.ac/us_en/products/cooling/vga.html
But make sure your card is compatible before you buy a cooler.
You could also think about going with liquid cooling, although thats a pretty expensive alternative.
Your best bet might be to try to find a reference cooler or fan for your gpu on ebay. Thats all i have to say.

(P.S. Call the Powercolor RMA department and see if they'll send you a new cooler/fan. I mean its worth a try right?)
