I have had Comcast internet for almost a year now. The speeds are great, and not my concern. I have the Comcast modem attached to my desktop computer and have no issues with that.
What issue I have however, is approx. 1 1/2 months ago, I started getting intermittent connection on my wifi to my laptop in one particular place in my house. Now, the internet is almost obsolete in this spot. If I take my laptop to another area of the house, the signal works great. It is just that one spot. The dead zone is closer to the modem than any other place I have walked in my house and got signal at. The modem is new. I have tried adding a separate purchased router to the modem and shutting off the wifi on the modem, but no help. This dead zone for wifi also affects my cell phone, so I know it is not the laptop. The laptop is also a newer top of the line laptop, yet another reason I know it is not the laptop. I also recently installed a new networking card in the laptop, thinking that was the issue. It was not.
I do not know much about powerline. I do know that extenders cut your signal in half. I play computer games on my laptop, as well as stream music and videos, so this doesn't sound very appealing to me. In the same area as the dead zone, I have console gaming systems that I also stream, so internet is a big must for me in this area.
I never had this problem before 1 1/2 months ago, and cannot find what Is causing it. Until I can, I need an alternative.
Any suggestions?
