Hi Folks,

Earlier today we completed some scheduled forum maintenance and had to take the site offline for a bit to do so. This maintenance was just an upgrade to the core forum software that we use (Xenforo) and it mostly contained behind the scenes performance enhancements with only a few front facing changes you may notice:
  • Passwordless Logins: The forums now have support for PassKeys.
  • Content Embedding: Improved sharing and embedding of forum content across various platforms.
  • Icons: Some of the iconography around the site may have changed.
This update was not expected to cause any issues and should improve overall site performance. That said, sometimes gremlins can appear after the fact so if you have any issues please feel free to report them here and we'll take a closer look. Thank you for your patience and understanding through the brief downtime and for being a part of the Tom's Hardware community!

Was our name shrinking intentional?

It used to be a bigger font size. Refer PCGamer or any of the other forums you didn't update yet :)

My icon next to my name up top got a little smaller too.

Nah. I increased it a bit. It was perhaps a little too big before. 😀

I discovered a bug that seems to be a regression in the new version of forum software. I never had this problem, before.

I often edit my messages in markup mode, but there are a couple reasons I switch to WYSIWYG mode, table-editing being chief among them. Often, I'll copy-paste a table from the content part of the website or an excel spreadsheet, maybe do some editing, and then switch back into markup mode to do further tweaking or write the rest of my post.

Well, I just tried that for the first time since this latest update and found that switching to markup mode broke the table. The rows, columns, and headings were all there, but the content had spilled out into the main part of the post, beneath it.

How to reproduce:
  1. visit this article: https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-com...nch-22-new-mobile-cpus-next-month-at-ces-2025
  2. select and copy the entire table.
  3. In the forum thread, paste into a new post. So far, so good.
  4. Now, switch to markup mode and either hit Preview or switch back to WYSIWYG mode. I even tried going ahead and posting it, but the resulting post was messed up in exactly the way shown by the Preview.

Browser: Firefox/Windows

Also, I tried editing a message that already contains a proper table and the same thing doesn't happen. So, maybe it's somehow specific to the way that table pastes in...

Guess it could be forums really think everyone needs to now about whats new, and it might be something to do with mobile format (though I am on PC)

It doesn't disappear - it just moves to the sidebar menu, once that becomes visible.

I typically resize my windows to be narrow enough that the sidebar disappears, which leaves slightly more horizontal room for the actual forum posts, themselves.

Personally, I never used What's New and I don't see that changing. I imagine some people do, but for me its placement is a non-issue.
