Recently I was looking threw my basement and noticed one of my older computers so I decided to check it out . Inside I found 4 gigs of DDR2 RAM an AMD Phenom II 955 Black Edition and a very old gpu that is pretty much like 5 bucks on street bearly has 256 mb.
Now from what I recall I was able to run games like Counter Strike Global Offensive and Skyrim . Now I want to get a decent GPU for the cpu bump up the RAM to 8 gigs and get a 500 watt power supply and use it for a LAN party or something . Which GPU would be best budget and performance wise ? Also could it run games like Overwatch or Player Unknown Battlegrounds or do I have to change the cpu itself to be able to play such games on it ? Also before I forget the motherboard I am going to get one in the near future from a friend its supposed to hold up to 8 gigs of ram and is AM2+

Thing is I don't want to overclock the CPU its already a solid 4 to 5 years old so id rather not risk it .
Also the 1050 would be a bit overkill don't ya think ? Budget wise I could get it but its just a huge waste because I don't plan on using it for stuff like ARK or something of that sort . Isn't there some other option ?

Okay great so i do want to overclock using the asus 'turbov' software and i just ordered one of those 'hyper evo 212' coolers and hope that will be sufficient. I also ordered a samsung ssd drive to run windows and a couple games on. I also just overclocked my old HD 5770 using the catalyst overdrive and my framerate did improve! I've been trying to play fallout 4 and i have everything set as low as possible but i'd like to get a card that will allow for high settings and consistently good framerates.
I've always used amd products so what would you guys say is the amd equivalent to the 1050? Most importantly, when i upgrade to an AM4 socket MB in the future, i'd like to put this card in it.......and the gpu needs a display port like i use now which is a DVI-I, i think

i'd appreciate yall's input. thanks

Yeah true I should have specified it a bit better . And while the 1050 is the best wouldn't it be overkill on my setup or its just me overthinking it ?

If you are thinking "Bottleneck" it's a finicky expression because it may be program/game specific and none of components can be excluded. In some games it may be processor, in some GPU and even RAM so best policy is to get everything as even as possible and hope for best.

Yeah you have a point . I'll wait out till the end of the week and see if there are any other suggestions if there are none I'll get the 1050 . Also yeah I thought it might bottleneck overall because the CPU ain't that new and from what I read the 1050 is one of those beast cards for mid to high end gaming rigs .

Gonna get the RX 460 . I don't know why but I think it would be better if I kept the parts to AMD

It really doesn't matter if you combine with Nvidia but I have Rx 460, 2GB but paired with stronger processor so it doesn't show as much. Not many games played on this computer, only when grandkids come and use it as baby sitter. A 4gb one might be somewhat better.
