I have $300.00 and I want to get the best gaming processor that I can.
Here's my choices:
AMD:
- FX 8350 w/http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181032
watercooler then extremely overclock it.
- FX 9590 w/included watercooler
- Intel i5 4690K w/http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132070 motherboard
--Any other suggestions would be very helpful--
Thanks!

I have tried overclocking the 8120 and I can't stand the unbearable 15 FPS in Arma 3 and DayZ. What is the best motherboard I could get with an i5?

Yeah I really hate those colors, too. Is there a big difference between the 4690k and the 4590?

If I am not mistaken, your games depend largely on a single fast core.
The Intel haswell cores are considerably faster per gb than the FX cores.
What is your budget?
At $70, the G3258 with a decent overclock @4.0 has the fastest cores around.
At $125, a I3-4170 @3.7 would be very good.
at $225, the i5-4690K is about as good as you would want. Expect an OC around 4.0
At $330, i7-4790K is as good as it gets, 4.0/4.4 stock plus hyperthreading.

My budget is $300.

And I have an AMD mobo now so I would need to get a new mobo if I go with Intel.

oh my bad, meant the 4690k. I'd go check tomshardware top reviews for the best mobo's under 100$, find one with the colors/features you like and go with that one.

if you don't overclock, I believe you can get away with the 4690 (non k ) and an h97 motherboard. Should be able to find a combo for under 300.

if you do want to overclock. a z97 and 4690k should be maybe 320-340? for a cheaper mobo (less features I think)

The 8350 for your board is much better then the 8120 but for 300 bucks you can get a I 5 4690 and a good 100 board from newegg . Get a Z97 if your not into over clocking you could go with a lower cost board.. The 8370 and beyond is a waste of money even the 8320 will clock as high as the 8350 while over clocking mine sets at 4.4 right now and my FPS are thru the roof with a R 290 RADEON FROM power color PCS+

Hey at least you have read all of my posts in this thread, can you find me a good mobo around $80 for the i5 4690

Both your threads are wrong one is a water cooler and the other is a z87 asus board that's a bit outdated already.

A FX-8350 or 9590 is not going to be significantly better.
The 9590 is a well binned 8350 that has a factory overclock to 5.0
With good bin luck on a 8350, you can do near the same for much less.
Similarly, you can oc your 8120.
Regardless any of the above will not touch a 4690K at stock, let alone with a conservative overclock to the 4.0 + range.
Yes, you will need a new motherboard. Any Z97 based motherboard will let you oc a 4690K decently.
No need for extreme motherboards unless you are looking at sli or competitive overclocking.
Here is a M-ATX for $75 which is the least expensive I can find.

If you live near a microcenter, they sell a 4690K for $200.

Unless you are desperate for a immediate upgrade, I suggest you wait for the Skylake launch in August.
You will want a I5-6600K and a Z170 motherboard.
They will likely give you perhaps 10% better price/performance.
The Z170 motherboards will be more capable with some interesting ssd type capabilities.
Prices are expected to be similar to today's equivalents.

CPU 2 no overclock http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116989&nm_mc=HookLogic&cm_sp=HookLogic-_-Processors+-+Desktops-_-Intel-_-19116989

CPU 3 No overclock http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117302

Please don't get the Pentium g3258 It is a awesome chip for what it is but its only dual core and there are 3 or 4 games to date it will not run because they require a 4 core cpu and going to a I3 will leave you wanting more in the end you have the funds now get the best you can don't get the lower end and be wishing you had gotten the other also The above cpu will last you a long time..

This is still better than an AMD option-
