I have been hosting a 7 Days to Die server for around a year now. The server is basically a higher end gaming rig. AMD FX 8-core @4.2, 32GB 1866 DDR3 ram, 500 GB SSD, 850 Watt PSU, GTX 970 running on Windows 10. My ISP speed typically is 110 Down and 20 Up. My question is that here recently traffic on the server has went from up to 10 players to around 20 at times and I have noticed complaints of lag ect. My router is a Linksys AE3000. Does anyone know if I getting another router to solve this issue would help or I have also thought about turning an old quad core low level gaming rig into a router after reading about it on some forums as I have a few not being used. Thanks so much, been coming here for years for advice. Finally Joined!

Well it really depends on both the router and the quality and speed of the connection, but I can't really pinpoint those dependancies as quite frankly, I'm not very experience with networking.

I see, how fast is the advertised upload speed?
Sorry I have been busy with work. So do you think it is a combo of the two issues and I should do both or should I try for more upload speed before I build the router box. I'll check my provider to see what kind of upgrade I can get. Thanks again for your prompt replies.

Well it appears I am unable to get higher UL speeds in this area. 20ish is about it. Guess I am gonna have to move :) I will too. I will update you after I try the router build. Thanks gentlemen.

Solution
Well, after a few weeks of trial with different games and waiting till this weekend for a big gaming party. I can say that the primary problem is the game 7DTD. I can support at least 25 players on a few other games without noticing any issue using my current setup and hardly host 12 in a stable way on 7DTD. I still plan on building a router out of a used PC, but I am stuck on obtaining an increase in upload speed until I relocate 😉 Thanks again for your help. I hope soon they can optimize the game in a way that improves the way it's hosted.
