I currently own an ASUS Direct CUII GTX 670 4Gb DDR5 and have a spare Gt 730 (4GB DDR3) could I use the 730 as a PhysX card and would it be worth trying to set up the cards together?

Also my motherboard only has 2 PCIe 8x slots

Solution
Yes, you can try the 730 as a dedicated PhysX card. But first, you need to make sure that you're playing games that feature GPU accelerated PhysX. What games do you intend to play?

Both the GPU's comes with Nvidia Physx Technology, using the Gtx 670 makes much more sense over the GT 730, as it will always give better performance compared to 730. Hope that helps.
