I had an old PC around that I decided to take apart to see if I can repurpose components to build a dedicated streaming PC.
What I have in hand is:
Intel i5 4590 (4 cores at 3.30 Ghz boosting to 3.70 Ghz)
2x 8 GB Crucial Ballistix 1600 Mhz C9
GeForce GTX 770
The motherboard I have to scrap because it was a MicroATX with only one PCIe slot for the GPU, so I cannot use it to mount a capture card to it.
I've been looking around at Ryzen builds and I keep coming in at least $250-300 to replace the motherboard, CPU, Case, not to mention maybe upgrading RAM. This plus the capture card puts me in at least $500. Buying an LGA1150 motherboard to fit this i5 processor seems like a dumb idea, considering it has been phased out for a while.
On the other hand, I currently have a 3700x that I can sell and the 3900x is going for $400 right now, meaning I might end up paying $200 when I factor in the sale of the old CPU.
I don't know if the latter is the best route to go. I like the idea of having a second PC, but I did not want to spend $500 to get it. I'm just wondering if the 3900x is the better option, considering that is the only component I have to upgrade, which greatly reduces the cost.
Any suggestions?
