Basically its this I am in charge of 8 systems running windows 7 in a room in work, that anybody can use. What we would like is after they have used the system, the next time it is turned on , the systems will basically go back to how they were before anyone used them, i.e. if they saved a program on it or downloaded anything it is then deleted, so each time the system comes on it is like a fresh install on a system . I have heard of a program called deep freeze and if it does what it says it does this would be what we want, frozen system restore few minutes to load up, so this is the effect we want, quick load up fresh install behavoiur. NOW here is the difficult part we want to achieve this without it taking a long time so i think system restore is out of the question AND the company wont pay for software so free options anyone???

I am not sure if this will help or not. I use a "sandbox" program called Toolwiz Time Freeze. It can be configured to automatically run when Windows 7 starts. It prohibits any and all changes to your computer (including any web links). When you turn off the computer all "changes" are discarded.

It also has the ability to be password protected. Meaning in your example, no one using your computers will be able to save or download anything (including PUP's, viruses, malware, etc.). You, on the other hand, will be able to turn Time Freeze off (so you can make changes, downloads, etc.) since only you know the password to turn it off. If you set it to launch with Windows, it should be almost full-proof protection, if I understand correctly your needs.

And did I mention it is free? Here is a link if you are interested:

Hope this helps

I was also looking for an alternative to Deep Freeze because it was a little over my price range. I came across Drive Vaccine from horizon datasys which are similar products and they do pretty much the same thing (restore on every reboot). In fact I was testing Drive Vaccine and I noticed a few more features than Deep Freeze, also Drive Vaccine is much cheaper. If you are looking for a freeware software, I would recommend Reboot Restore, but the negative about it is that there is no password protection so anyone can turn off the protection. You best bet is Drive Vaccine

Yes, you are right, there were some issues with Reboot Restore regarding the fact that any user could turn off protection. According to HDS themselves, their latest build addresses this issue - now, only administrators will be able to disable protection: http://community.horizondatasys.com/forum/reboot-restore-rx/1364-reboot-restore-rx-release-notes

I was looking at the website, and I found an even more robust product called Rollback RX, I got my free trial key and it works great! Rollback allows me to make baselines called snapshots and I can take as many as I want and I can go back to those snapshots whenever I want as well! I can also schedule to take snapshots on a regular basis which is great for what I needed. check it out guys - http://horizondatasys.com/en/products_and_solutions.aspx?ProductId=1
