Someone is going to attempt to use Deepfake Live to pull a scam video chat, I want to bust them but I need to talk to someone who knows how it works. My rudimentary understanding is that it's a face filter and that it ties to the face, so if the face is obstructed, it won't be able to add the filter. I've seen people put on sunglasses and maintain the filter however, so I'm not sure if that is correct.

Any ideas? I have to bust this scammer...

Current day deepfakes are generated by AIs, which in turn, make the image nigh-indistinguishable from the real one. And to catch the AI, you need another AI who is able to catch the changes in the image.

So, it depends on the software that person uses. If it's simple face filter, you can actually tell if it's fake since there are several errors in the image. But if that person uses trained AIs, well... good luck on catching that.

I suggest that you watch this informational video about deepfakes and bring yourself up to the speed, of what current day deepfake AIs are capable of:

And after that, with better understanding, you can figure out how to deal with this issue (if you even can).

My guess is that it's a simple face filter, or whatever is used with the software DeepFake Live. This seems to be popular among scammers. I feel like live-generated deep fakes are a little sloppier than the pre-rendered ones. The best idea I can come up with in this scenario is to try and get them to turn their head where the fake will probably start distorting, or have them partially obstruct their face to desync the software.
