I don't want my email in someone else's cloud, so I use Thunderbird. With the Lightning add-in, it has pretty much the same single-user functionality as Outlook, including the Calendar and Todo lists with reminders. In addition to my regular image backups, I also use a program called Mozbackup to back up my email and settings.

Yeah I use TBird too, but unfortunately my ISP switched to gmail imap servers (still a cableone.net address), so Mozbackup doesn't work well anymore and my email is stuck in the cloud.
