Hi I have a dell 660s with Intel g630 chip. I wanted to update it to a i5 3470 exact chip I read some places that it would be okay to update it my dell has the same socket for it but my question is since my g630 is a 32nm would the i5 22nm fit would it work? Do I just swap them out and everything be good?

Of course it will, now you should try a graphic card with the system, start with a low range which consumes about 20-40 watts and then a mid range abt 60watts too see if the PSU can handle it before purchasing the product. If you're experiencing unwanted problems like system hangs or shut down then you should either use your PC without a graphic card or completely change the casing and the PSU. There are no such thing like BIOS Lock etc that will lock the PCIe X16.. I didn't found that on a Dell system so far but yeah I did have a Toshiba laptop with locked bios at the workshop that cannot be unlocked and needs to be sent to manufacturer for unlocking.

Regards

Okay new question guys. I installed my CPU. The heat sink that came with the i5 doesn't have screw able legs so I used the same heatsink my g630 pentium. My pc isn't that old 2012 do I need new thermal paste or the one on the heat sink is okay?

I fully upgraded my dell 660s everything worked like a charm my i5 3470 install was super easy and the update drivers itself just like when u use a usb drive for the first time as long as u have your internet connected just make sure it's the correct chip for your motherboard like mine was lga1155 and my i5 chip was lga1155 too
