Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone knows of or may have experienced this problem and if they have some insight for someone who is still somewhat green to computer tear downs. I recently got a Dell 7010 MT that I was using for web browsing, light work, light gaming. I had a 790 which was the exact same case, problem I'm having is that the hard drive storage container is locked down on the bottom so that you can only fit a specific length card in it, believe it to be around 7.5 inches max. I had removed the hard drive case holder from my 790 by drilling out the rivets to fit my MSI 7870 twin frozr III in it, which worked great by the way. I do have a 700 watt psu and upgrade ram by the way so I wasn't running on the stock psu or so so ram. The problem I have with this case is that it seems like the 7010 mt case is welded on the back plate? I had taken out the rivets but the damn thing wont budge, so was wondering if more tear down is required or if anyone knows of a pc case that is adaptable that would be great as well. Read a bit on here that you could buy pretty much any atx case, though the problem becomes the front panel doesn't necessarily work with third party cases, etc. Some insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I would ask you to hold off on anymore tear downs. The OptiPlex's were designed as a prebuilt, non user friendly upgrade/tampering, unit. The backplate is part of the chassis so you're going to have to mangle the case to the point of no value/scrap.

You could use an aftermarket case but you'll need to figure out the front panel connectors and their polarity. Read more here. I'd kindly ask you to stop with the prebuilts tampering and leave it as is.

On another note, what is the make and model of the 700W PSU? How old is it?

Thanks Lutfij for the tip. I didn't really want to mess with it begin with, but the air flow in that case is pretty rough, and felt with it being so stuffy removing that chasis would help. Thanks for the link to the post as well, i'll have to do some configuring as far as the case measurements.

The psu is a thermaltake 700w b I had gotten it December of 2017 so its just barely coming up on a year old
