Better to be laid off. My wife did alright when she was laid off from BAC because she transferred her retirement plan to an IRA and purchased some apple stock. Taking money in cash is a bad idea. This would work best if you took the money in January.

Lol never really liked Dell, Even before i built PC's i always bough HP or a cheap Acer that always seemed to be more reliable then Dell. For laptops i would of never picked them over something like Toshiba, HP, Acer, Asus, MSI. Maybe over Gateway,

dell firing the "dude, you're getting a dell" guy... it might sound silly on the surface, but i think you might be right about that signaling the beginning of the end. it was such a great image for their company, and the thought that they fired him for smoking pot? MAN that's ridiculous. i thought the character was SUPPOSED to be seen as a pot smoking type of hip cat. image is everything, and dell took a big shit on a great branding/imaging opportunity. they could have continued to differentiate themselves from all of the other equally boring and redundant PC makers by keeping him around. nobody would have been upset about it. they didn't, and now i think they're paying for it because they're perceived to be just another PC maker with no imaging (or products) to differentiate themselves.

Still better than HP. HP quality ( intel motherboard, rebranded ram, seagate hard drives) is junk. Dell isn't much better but at least hey aren't so craptacular when it comes to drive quality. Toshiba and WD are the only hard drivs wrth a damn. Seagate SUCK, Samsung,,,suck... there is a reason I build my own and don't buy laptops until they are broken on ebay and I can change parts out myself.
