FACT - A Stock OpenBSD install is more secure than a stock Windows 7 install. They have had only had 2 remote exploits in like 15 years. There is no point in talking about 3rd party apps, it's beside the point. To a lesser degree, a stock Ubuntu install is more secure than Windows 7. All this talk about other software is just muddying the waters. I could also point out that not turning your computer on in the first place is more secure than any OS - but it's about as useful as talking about 3rd party apps.

The most important part of a discussion is a well defined question - any nearly everyone here seems to be veering off topic.

[citation][nom]False_Dmitry_II[/nom]Isn't that the cloud-based/only OS? No thanks, if I wanna use not windows I'll stick with real linux.[/citation]
Ubuntu is really good + Free!!!

[citation][nom]SchizoFrog[/nom]I wouldn't say that it was more secure, just less likely to be attacked. The two are not the same thing. People used to say the same thing about Apple's software but year after year it is been proven at the security conventions that it just isn't true.Personally, I would rather have more attacks aimed at my machine with very good protection and a very small risk of a successful attack than have a single attack that destroyed my OS, stole my personal info and corrupted my stored data. But the best security measure is to stop doing stupid things with your computer.[/citation]
Yes and every year at the convention in order to get to OS X they need physical contact with the computer or the user to accept and install a piece of code. This is not true with Windows.

[citation][nom]erloas[/nom]The question is, are the people that normally purchase from Dell going to be a good target for the Chrome OS?[/citation]

Great question, I don't think they will. DHS and many government agencies all use Dell. no windows = no more dell purchases.

Many large oil companies use Dell as well (an upgrade ~every two years), same situation.

I think Dell will lose a shit ton of sales from this move.
