Agree with you. I hope that Dell’s experience with AMDs through Alienware will make them decide on an AMD Dell. Hurrah for more competition.

P.s. Will this make Dell one of AMDs largest customers ?

SO SO SO
Will Dell (the main company) now FINALLY begin making interesting PCs and use the AMD chips for home PCs?
Will the customer service of Alienware finally get better?
I hope one of these actually come true.

According to my theory the customer service can only get worse and they will still sell last-generation hardware.

This looks like further consolidation of the computer industry, it worked for car manufactures, at least some, buy high end models to get into the market segment. Gateway got into the low end buying E Machine. Likely HP and possibly Gateway will look at buying Voodoo. The problem is that it is relatively cheap to build computers compared to cars and this is an opportunity for some enterprising folks to begin building high end gaming machines. $300 million in gross sales ain't exactly chump change so there is a market for these boutique high end machines.

I hate to break it to you, but it is. Especially when you're comparing Alienware to Dell in the same sentence. Or Alienware to anyone for that matter...

EDIT:

I just did some research, Alienware made about $172 million in revenue last year. So my $300 million estimate was overly optimistic. So I say again; how much do think they really made in profit last year?

Alienware is on track to hit $225 million in sales this year, up from $172 million in 2005, according to recent projections by Gonzalez, the privately held company's CEO. Aguila is president.

The piddly security firm I work for makes $250 million in a QUARTER. And I guarantee you've never heard of us...

My only points were that there is a market for these high end machines and a decent profit can be made regardless if their gross sales are $300 mil or $172 mil. And I would guess they have a pretty decent profit margin given their premium pricing. If they had an after tax profit of 10% that is still $17 mil. Like I think I said in a previous post, I don't think it makes sense to compare gross earnings or profits of companies like Alienware or Voodoo to Dell or HP, it's like comparing the revenue or profits of Porche or Ferrari to Volkswagon or Mercedes Benz, I was going to say GM but they don't make a profit. Let's say that the owners each only made a $1 million from the $172 mil, which would be .5% and is probaly a rediculously low figure, by most people standards that would be a pretty decent income. I'll grant if I had to get by on a million or 2 a year I'd have to cut a few things out but I'd probably get by. 😀

Oh well, its better to buy a 100000$ authentic Lambourguini. Then buy a 1000$ bootleg Lamburgui at the Local Wal-mart Dealership? woops did i say that out loud? does Wal-mart sell cars yet? woo[s mybad had to wait till 2010 to say that. lol ;p
