This could be a long one.

Does the workstation have onboard graphics and an add-on card? In other words, is there more than one monitor connector round the back?

Start by trying the monitor on another system to prove that it's still working properly.
You should have tried that before posting.

This PC model most likely has a graphics card.
Ensure you are connecting the monitor to an output on the graphics card.
The video outputs on the motherboard will not work with a graphics card installed.

Check that you have selected the correct video input on your monitor.

What cable are you using to connect the monitor? This could be DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI or VGA and the two ends may not be the same.
Are you using any adapters (e.g. DVI to VGA)?

This PC model most likely has a graphics card.

The machine does have a graphics connector for onboard graphics.
If there is a graphics card installed, the motherboard connector will not work.
If the graphics card does not have a VGA connector, you may need to use a DVI to VGA adapter.
Take a photo of the PC showing where you have connected the monitor.

This is probaby too late now but you might find your BIOS is set to overlook the onboard graphics and go straight to the apparently failed add-on card.

To correct that, you do need to connect to a screen and as soon as you power up, tap whichever key you need to go into BIOS. I believe in a Dell that might be the Delete key.
