Question Dell E5470 is not switching on; What to do?

Hello tH-community,

my Dell E5470 is not starting and I have no idea what the problem could be.
  • The charging cable is connected and lights up blue.
  • When I press the power button, the power LED lights up briefly but switches off again immediately.
  • The screen always remains black.
  • The battery LED lights up white constantly when the power adapter is connected and goes out after a certain time.
  • The notebook has not been used a longer time (roughly 2 years).
I initially thought that the battery was defect, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. I have installed a new battery, but the problem persists.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
Thank you very much and best regards

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You might want to disassemble the laptop, then disconnect the battery from the laptop(since it's inside the laptop's chassis). You can then press and hold down the power button for your laptop for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.

Then power up the laptop with only your adapter as the power source for the laptop. See if you're able to power up the laptop.

Did you see any power surges take place while you were using the laptop?

Hi Lutfij, many thanks for your welcome and advice!

I followed the procedure you suggested (e.g. to drain any residual power) but it actually doesn't work.

With just the power supply connected and no battery installed the behaviour of the notebook is the same. Well, the power LED lights up for a second longer but switches of again. No further reaction of the laptop.

I also took out the RAM and the SSD, but again same result. Looks like sth. is broken...?
