yea i see what your saying thats what im trying to work out is it worth the upgrade im just trying to get the most out of what iv got but then aswell im thinking it might do the system some good maxing out on everything..at the moment im thinking just leaving the cpu and just upgrading the ram its a really quick machine being a few years old now it gives my wifes i5 a run for its money in some ways we both think its faster than the i5 lol 🙂
thanks for your help.

@Michael, you are talking about six-to-eight years old laptop (mine is from 2006). The weak point of most laptops (this one included included) is the video card, not the CPU. Replacing the CPU, even if possible and workable, will bring host of other problems - heat dissipation, BIOS updates (last BIOS update for my laptop was four years ago, probably). I would not bother spending money on upgrade.

yea i see what you mean this dell laptop was built so you could do all sorts of upgrade on it everything apart from the gpu whats a shame its a great work station but your probably right in some ways so im just going to put another harddrive in caddy and maybe upgrade the ram to 8g i think thats about it to be honest really finding hard finding 2x 4g DDR2 ram tho cant find any on ebay o well will keep looking thank you all for your help. ;-)
