I purchased this laptop new last October so I've had it almost a year now. A week ago now the battery stopped charging with some odd behavior. The laptop would register the charging cable as plugged in for about 2-3 seconds and then register that it was no longer plugged in for about 2-3 seconds. This behavior initially went undetected but the battery eventually drained resulting in Windows 10 covering the screen in a "Your Battery is Running Low" full screen dialogue box that had to be closed. Every time the charger would register as disconnected this box would pop up again and it was and is very frustrating.

The real issue however is the result of the laptop no longer being able to charge the battery. The laptop operates perfectly without a battery; being plugged directly in to the AC adapter. I have tried replacing the stock battery with a new battery of the same specifications only to experience the same results as with the stock battery. I have performed all manner of "turn it off and on again" solutions such as reinstalling various drivers associated with both the battery and the charging port to no effect. I have also discharged the laptop and re-seated the RAM modules (because some website said that might help). I have updated Windows to no effect. The only thing I haven't been able to do is update the BIOS because doing so with Dell's installer requires the battery to be plugged in and charged to 10%, neither battery I possess can be charged and are both at 5%.

I ran diagnostics from the BIOS menu to pinpoint the issue, and it seems as though the motherboard continuously rediscovers there is a charging port and yes it has an adapter plugged in. However it only does this odd behavior when there is a battery connected to the laptop. When the laptop is operating via the AC adapter and no battery is in the laptop, no error is detected with the charging port.

I still have warranty on the laptop and can send it in, but I would rather fix this issue myself so I may continue to use my laptop throughout this college quarter.

If anyone knows any solutions to this problem it would be greatly appreciated. All I want is to be able to use my laptop on battery power again. Thank you for your time reading this post.
