Dell Inspiron 530 Awaken from the grave

so as the title suggests, i have awoken the computer from a 2 year sleep.
with 1 ddr2 1gb ram stick. in the second slot.
that's the issue right there.
Not sure exactly why but, if i try to start the computer with ram in the first slot, it wont boot.
same if I tried to have a second ram module in slot 4 ( counting from nearest to processor)
I plan to do a clean install of this computer, probably windows 7 (was xp before)
I just want to know if I'm going to have issues.
not sure if the system is actually using the ram, as task manager is showing page file use instead of ram/physical memory.

I started an forum a while back regarding the same issue on the dell forums, of course, i was a naive young kid then, and should have tried the suggestion...

I do remember turning it on and getting the beep code, I was still getting it today.


as far as usage for this dinosaur, I basically need it to run a web browser and watch youtube videos.
I have not done a system check (f12/f2? at boot) and Bios update. I plan on doing both.
I figured I'd start this while I'm deleting old files and programs.

How do i delte this, issue has been solved and I'm in the greuling process of installing windows 7 updates.
Turns out i just needed to blow out the dust.
