DELL Inspiron N5030 DRIVER FOR WINDOWS 8

Dell’s Windows 8 upgrade compatibility list reports the N5030 as incompatible with the upgrade to Windows 8.

Thus, it is possible that some devices may not be fully compatible with Windows 8. The Intel chipset is compatible with Windows 8, drivers are provided here at the Intel Download Center. The graphics are supported through drivers available through Microsoft Update as described in this Intel documentation. The Atheros AR8151 Ethernet chipset is reported to be compatible with no action required. The Atheros AR9285 wireless driver is reported not to be compatible with Windows 8, but you may want to try installing the Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode.

Hopefully that gets you started.

The wireless driver is not compatible.

Dell does not consider the system to be compatible.

The chipset, ethernet, and graphics are compatible.

I'm working now on Windows 8
Do I need to install driver

Wireless works
Sound works .. but Low

You can check to see whether there are any devices without drivers in Device Manager. Right click in the bottom left corner, where you would launch the Start Screen, and select Device Manager from the menu of administrative tools. If there are no items with exclamation marks next to them, then the devices of your system are installed. If there are unknown devices you may need to follow the process of elimination to determine which devices are not operating.

As for the wireless driver that is working for you. I would encourage you to give feedback to the Windows Compatibility Center to report that the AR9285 chipset is working. Be sure to include whether you upgraded from Windows 7, and are thus using the drivers originally from Windows 7, or whether you installed clean and the drivers from Windows 8 worked out of the box. You can even find the device in Device Manager and right click, select properties, then select the Drivers tab and report the driver provider and driver version.

You seem to be in good shape, everything seems to be working. One issue you may have, which I encountered with a very similar system when upgrading to Windows 8, is that the touchpad disable/enable button between F12 and Insert may not work. This requires a specific touchpad driver which is not compatible with Windows 8.

I do have Dell QuickSet installed on my Inspiron 1564 with similar buttons on the keyboard. Volume, Media, Wireless, Display Mode, Brightness, and Battery buttons all work and work with the Windows 8 built in functionality (on screen volume display, Windows 8 display mode options, etc.). The version I have installed is 9.6.21.

It would seem that despite the official compatibility information, the N5030 is compatible with Windows 8.

I couldn't find out if you've finally solved the problem with touchpad disable/enable button on Windows 8 or not?
