[SOLVED] Dell Laptop Display extremely dim and flickering

Hi,

Main Issue: The display is extremely dim. If it becomes normal, it randomly flickers or goes off for 30-45 seconds before coming back to normal.

I recently purchased a Dell Vostro 15 inch laptop. (4 months ago)
Until yesterday the laptop was working fine. Today when I powered it on, the Dell logo was very dim and it directly went into Dell Diagnostics (very low brightness , was unable to read what is on screen), where it remained stuck.

After several reboots, I got windows to load, where it seemed like a windows update just completed.
Once it loads, the display becomes normal, but randomly the display goes off for a minute or so, or flickers continuously for a minute.

I have tried testing the display by holding the 'd' button when powering on the laptop. On testing , the display works perfectly.

Does this look like a software issue or a hardware issue?

Any ideas on how to resolve it or troubleshooting tips

Is it under warranty?
Complaint it.

If it is older, I'd guess the faulty backlight (hardware issue).
(CCFL or LED or their power supply.)

The simplest test is to connect a spare display with the same type of backlight and see if it is lit normally.
