so my grandma gave me this old laptop thats been sittin in the closet thats in prestine condition, she says " it doesnt work" after 3 years of sitting i plugged it in and it fires right up, so heres my question. i would like to be able to use this computer for something the computer has a core 2 duo E8400 processor socket 775, i would like to upgrade this to the best i can without replacing the motherboard can anyone tell me if this is even possible and if so what can i stick in it thats decent for having a 775 socket? if i can get sonething in it i would like to stick a ssd and a little more ram in it and use it as a test/ screw around computer

CPU upgrade: You can still improve on it if
1. the motherboard supports Core2 Quad CPUs,
2. if the CPU is not soldered on,
3. and depending on the CPU model if it's available in mobile version,
4. and if you can find the specific model.

Check this list for reference on CPU speed, and search for the model in mobile version.

SSD upgrade: Should be a fit in except that Dell computers have built in differences that make regular upgrades impossible, so you'd have to check with Dell or a Dell forum and depends on the answer... but you can always buy the SSD from Dell.

RAM upgrade: The 775 socket normally supports up to 8GB of RAM so depends on what the RAM size already is.

i acually havent been into the bios yet but it says it has 2 gb of ram im hoping i can ump up to a quad core but i will have to do somemore research for sure
