So I'm switching from my e5700 dual core to a x5450 xeon, bought it off eBay already preloaded with the sticker thing on it and the part cut off so it would fit, fitted perfectly, then I turned it on and it goes up for a second, no bios screen or anything, just boots up, and then boots back off. I put the other CPU in right after and it worked, but the xeon refused. So I looked up the very little information I could get on this, got a bios update to i560-U06, still the same outcome. I looked for this microcode shit for xeons on the internet, tried writing the .exe file for the update as a rom, and it tells me that the command parameter doesn't work. ( "LocationAndNameOfBiosUpdate.exe" /writeromfile and it tells me the command parameter is incorrect or some shit. So I couldn't do either of those, so I went to the temp files and tried using the afedo or whatever and it doesn't work neither because it had the same command. Either way, can someone help? I spent a good 30 for it

Before you waste time with these mods you need to make sure you read up on what will and might work.

You have to pay close attention to the motherboard chipset, a majority of the OEM systems out won't allow this because of the nature of the closed Bios system. You may get lucky and find a third party that has custom made a BIOS flash but those are few and far between now.
I tried to do the same thing with a Gigabyte Desktop Board (yes it kinda worked)

There is an unofficial list of Motherboards that do support this mod.
Try to mind out what motherboard you have and if it even supports this mod.

You probably just blew 30 bucks out of the window

Its actually a pain in the ass to do this mod.
I got it to run but only with 2 Cores instead of 4... ._.
