I have a Dell Inspiron 3847 and was wondering if I could upgrade the case fans/cpu fan to other fans other than stock ones?

Solution
Yeah more than likely. From what the repair manual shows, it should be a simple matter of pulling (what appears) to be a 3pin fan cable from the board, unscrewing the existing fan and swapping it out with a new fan. A non OEM 3pin fan should work.

The questions then become what size fan (the manual doesn't state), and if the fan uses screws or rubber grommets to hold the fan in place.
To find the fan size, just measure it. Chances are its a 120mm fan but I can't say for sure. If the fan uses screws instead of rubber grommets to hold the fan in place, then it should be a simple swap. If it does use grommets, you'll need to cut the grommets (scissors or wire snips work) and then you'll need to add new fan screws in to the purchase...

The manual for the computer can be found below. Page 11 shows you the location of the fan header and page 40 goes in to replacing the fan.
