what if i don't have a video card? can i use vga (primary display) and displayport (second display) onboard at once?

This runs with the onboard video, it just adds the 2nd port. Ascendtech has them for about $5. This how Dell says to do it.
J4571 is low profile, J4570 is full height card.

Yes you can use dp for a second monitor. The igpu supports up to 2 monitors and you have 2 ports.
