Hi all, I have a dell OptiPlex 790 intel i7 quad core . SSD 250 GB 16 GB Ram running win 10 pro. pc runs great and it's a fast internet surfer.
Im looking for info to upgrade the processor or board to handle win 11, prepping for the loss of Microsoft support for win 10. can I upgrade the processor to load win 11? or do I replace the board? if changing the board, which board should I go with? and what's needed to install the new MB as far as processors or? I don't game, I'm just a almost full time internet surfer, Im also looking for economy but a fast surfer. be nice if a processor upgrade would work

What specific CPU is in it now?

Basically, you need a whole new PC.

New motherboard and CPU also probably means new RAM.
Given this is a Dell, almost certainly a new PSU as well.

Hey...a whole new PC.

I would tend towards agreeing with the above post in a short time frame from the EOS. As time goes on having an out of support OS IS going to become an issue. You can mitigate it by using third party products where possible, such as your A/V solution, possibly your browser. I cannot imagine that you would not be able to plug those holes third party for as long as that PC remains relevant for your use case.

Another thing you might consider is moving to a Linux distro.
