I recently got a dell poweredge 2900 for free from a friend and I was planning on using it as a garry's mod server. My problem is that when I put the HDD in the hot swap bay and go to install windows. The windows install does not recognize my HDD and it doesn't show up on the partition list. I tried different hard drives and none of them seem to work. I'm really hoping the front board that has all the hot swaps on it are not broken. What could be the issue? Please help!!

Solution
You need to install the perc (HDD controller) drivers. They need to be added as additional drivers during install - hit F6 when it asks about drivers

Thank you for the response! But when do I hit F6? When the PC is posting or when Im in the windows installation? And where can I find additional drivers

I think I downloaded the drivers. How do I add them to the flashdrive. Also I know the driver menu you are talking about when you hit f6 when you are on the partition page. But the drivers I downloaded are called "SAS-RAID_Firmware_2RPK0_WN32_5.2.2-0072_A09.exe" How do I put this into my bootable usb. I just dragged it in there and gave it a show and it did not work... Do i need a certain tool?? I have a million flashdrives so if i need to use a second one that is not a problem.

That is not a driver, it's firmware.
Dell doesn't support any client OS on their servers(only server OS). This means there are no driver specifically for Win 7. The 2008 server drivers should work. You;re looking for the PERC 5i or 6i raid controller drivers

So what OS do you recommend?

How do I install the drivers onto the flashdrive

They arent showing up when i check them on windows install. Im assuming I have the wrong drivers. Where can I find the correct ones.?

I dragged and dropped the file you sent a download link to into the flash drive and when i try to find it when Im in the part where you hit f6 it doesn't show up..
