fresh win10 install / all win10 updates and dell updates installed except bios /
current bios is 1.11.0 from 2021
new bios is 1.31.0 from 2024

when executing bios update it fails with ""Warning: MS Windows Bitlocker drive encryption/decryption is currently in progress. A firmware update is not possible at this time. Please try again later once this process is complete."

checked and under control panel/system and security/bitlocker encryption it has a "turn on bitlocker" button, not a "suspend bitlocker" button, so I assume bitlocker is NOT active?

tried downloaded driver file from Dell.
tried using Dell driver assistance, only failure was bios file
tried rufus bootable drive with bios file copied to usb drive, but when accessing F12 for "bios update" then run file or boot to rufus version the usb drive does not show up.
dont see a way to turn off anything but secure boot, would that do it?

thanks

I went looking and noticed you have a number of BIOS updates;
https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/precision-15-5550-laptop/drivers
between 1.11.0 and 1.31.0. Instead of jumping to the latest, why not go one by one, manually and running the installer package in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator?

dont see a way to turn off anything but secure boot, would that do it?
If the above fails, then perhaps try and disable Fast Boot from BIOS(if it's enabled) and then Secure Boot but do not enable CSM(if the option presents itself in BIOS.

well, the first file I tried was 1.12.0 and while it did not present the bitlocker warning, it did not give me an "update" button, just a cancel button.
but I can try a few of the other files.
should be noted the DELL driver assistant was also trying the 1.31.0 file.
it does have a fast boot disable option, that is about it though

thanks

Hey, just a follow up.
I went back to the Dell sight and got several of the older bios files.
started at 1.16 [first one that worked] then did 1.20 / 1.29 /and finally 1.31 with no issues.
thanks again
