I can't see myself touching my monitor at home, the damn fingerprints would drive me crazy while gaming or watching movies.

This sounds perfect for my setup. My bed has one side next to a wall, so I planned on mounting a display there. Multi-touch will make this much simpler, no need to get up and go to my desk to setup some The Joy of Painting to fall asleep to.

Honestly, image quality matters more than brightness. If you don't need to use it in direct sunlight, anything 250+ is plenty.

EDIT: crap, I meant to type 150+. It is true that most in this price range are around 400, but you can get excellent image quality at a lower brightness.

Two things:

1. It is so uncool to make the effort to complain about typo's - especially of the intention is obvious.

2. This business about finger prints... Laptops and Monitors are "Utility" devices, they are supposed to be used ! My laptop has fingerprints all over it, who cares really. It is not a fashion statement. If getting finger prints on my screen means enabling greater ease of use, then so be it.

Stop complaining, fix the rips in shoes jeans and do up your shoe laces first, pull up your pants, wear your cap front forwards, stop spitting on the football field, clean the inside of your car windshield, then your Mum's coffee table top (with wax polish), clean up any pee drips around the toilet after yourself, (and the wash basin), then start complaining about finger prints on your monitor.

After repeated usage---what is left of the screen? Even better, after using for awhile, you find you can't see the screen clearly anymore because of the smudge marks.

I don't understand the touch screen craze for computing. A touchscreen that is viewed vertically, such as a desktop and sometimes laptop, would tire your arm as hell by having your arm raised to do "work."

I have wanted a touch monitor for a long time, ever since I got my touch screen tablet pc, I've found myself accidentally touching my screen at work .

If you compare this to other touch monitors the price is actually better, but HP also announced it for $299 (double the price of the cheapest 21.5" LCD that I have seen), but I don't see on their website at all yet. I want to buy this for my work but since we are transitioning I am going to wait and see what happens before I make any decisions and if the HP one is available then I'd probably go for it unless my companies discount program with Dell makes it cheaper of course .

I think the industry is heading the wrong way, i'd prefer multitouch keyboard and mouse.

I'm glad to see the industry moving AWAY from the keyboard and mouse. The world needs multi-touch and voice command (and dictating).

This is coming from someone with a severe case of RSI. It's all fun and games until you're practically crippled. (and no, surgery doesn't really help)

I think you can get your RSI faster using multi-touch monitors, i cant picture myself (as a former programmer) or anyone else, typing in the monitor, even if you lie it down as i've seen some people do, i'd rather have a multi-touch lcd or whatever working as a keyboard and mouse, and a regular monitor in front of me. Voice command is a good thing to.

I I'm dictating this using Dragon Naturally Speaking 10.1 on a 64-bit XP machine. I've long suspected that the reason the computer industry has taken so long to implement truly effective speech recognition stems from the fact that someone in the keyboard industry has some very nasty child porn involving folks in the speech recognition industry.

I can think of no other reason why the simplicity of voice control of computers and speech recognition for dictating have not been seen as the ultimate killer apps which they truly are.

i would love to watch a blu ray movie on a screen that has people touching the entire thing; i would give the screen a month till it has smudges all over it. A household with kids would kill this thing.
