Dell Studio XPS 9100 Memory Installed verse Memory Available

Read in manual it said 4GB is the max size for stick of RAM
Replace 6 original sticks, with 6 4GB sticks (Kingston KVR13N9S8H/4)
Windows 10 says it seeing 16GB. I was expecting 24GB. In the Bios it says:
Memory Installed 24576MB
Memory Available 16376MB
In the simpliest terms possible why the 8GB difference? For this system is 16GB the max memory available?

24GB is max for that model system. How much memory does your BIOS recognize? Are you 100% certain that all memory modules are fully inserted into their slots?

odd .. went to Dell site it said to update BIOS however it was the same version as what was already installed. Went ahead and did the update. It still says the same version however it is now seeing all 24GB
