Apart from the dell T3500 original psu can it use any other kind?

Yes. Aftermarket ATX PSUs can be installed. The original Dell harness is removable from the PSU. They ran it behind the MB, so MB removal is required to uninstall it. It's up to you whether you install the new one there, or on top where it's easier to get at. Be sure and get a PSU that's equal to the one you're removing on the 5V. rail. Dell PSUs are rated at continuos output and they're UL rated for fire safety. Aftermarket PSUs are rated peak power and only the top brands are equal in protection. Unless you're stepping up about 100W. there won't be much difference.
