I have a Dell Dimention T700r: P3 700E (coppermine), Intel 440BX (Phoenix BIOS A11). The MB is locked at FSB 100 MHz. Is it possible to unlock the MB to release the power of the 440BX chipset?

I'm not som conserned about what Dell thinks. I'm more interested if it is possible or not.

You could use a soft fsb utility. Go to http://Overclockers.com and look around. If you can't find, I'll forward it to you.

If you look at the motherboard and peruse the BIOS you'll see there is no way to change the FSB. OEM boards typically don't allow any changes like that to be made. Otherwise savvy customers will order a lesser processor and overclock it. This could lead to people burning up their processors and sending them back to Dell for replacement. I've never looked into it, but I wonder if you could replace the BIOS chip itself. I doubt it, though.

What I'm saying is that Dell probably uses motherboards with no jumpers to change the settings and no way to change the bus in bios and no way to change to another bios, and these boards are probably manufactered by Intel who would also go to extremes to make sure overclocking was not possible.

there are a number of so-called soft FSB utilities which allow the user to ramp up the fsb after the os loads...
I like your idea about changing the CMOS chip. Maybe even a third party BIOS flash? If I were Are, I'd switch out the mainboard.

how about www.h-oda.com the web site of softfsb.

Negative, I am a meat popsicle.

Thanx for the tips!
I have tested SoftFSB, but the PC freezes every time I try to detect the FSB speed - no matter what settings I use. It seems Dell has done this a bit tricky. I found one chip marked W149H, whitch I suspect is the clock generator - is this right?

Run SisoftSandra to determine ICWorks chipset. Then go to their website and check the specs on the chipset...

I tryed CPUFSB to change the FSB, it woorked fine with W149 as clock gen. The PC seems to run stable up to FSB 124MHz (processor 868 MHz).
