MACs are not PCs. So the statement is completely accurate. This article on the other hand is complete hogwash and seems like its written by an Apple cultist.

Yeah, I just found an HP (dm4x) for my mother-in-law that is less than 1 inch thick. (0.98 inches)
Yet still packs a Core i5 CPU and 4GB of ram.
I don't know about you but I can't see the difference of one hundredth of an inch. Even the 4 hundredths of an inch VS the apple would be un-noticable.

Well, they said thinnest PC, using Apple's own marketing misnomer against them. In any case, at 999 I don't think its a bad computer at all, certainly falls short of the MBP in may ways but its nearly half the price of the most basic 15 inch.

[citation][nom]ReggieRay[/nom]Sorry, I think I will stick with my Macbook Pro.[/citation]
lol you mean you stuck with Mc. Pro )))))))

[citation][nom]shin0bi272[/nom]no its not thinner than a mac but who really cares about mac? if it isnt an iphone or ipod or ipad its basically a linux pc with a cute little logo and no gaming ability what so ever. So in the world of REAL computing its the thinnest laptop.[/citation]

What's it like being wrong all the time?

If you buy laptops based on how thin they are over anything else, you have bigger issues than a thin laptop can fix.

[citation][nom]del35[/nom]After a certain point thinness matters not. What matters is hardware performance. Tis precisely why iCrapple puts out so much, well, CRAP.[/citation]

Apple produces, exactly that, best hardware performance - go check out the specs. I'm not a Mac fan, I've been using windows for the last 15 years, and 90% of computers in my house are windows based. I have an MBP 15" and it playes SC2 on ultra settings without breaking a sweat, I render videos and music in a fraction of the time that this advertised Dell can.

I'm the smartest guy on Tom's hardware forums*

*this comparison was made against spammers only

I really couldn't help myself. LOL I like Dell. I worked for them for a few years. I understand the need for a disclaimer when saying something like that. You don't want some no-name obscure brand to come out and claim false advertising. However, leaving Apple out of the comparison is like ignoring the giant elephant in the room. :/

[citation][nom]WR2[/nom]I would hope so, considering you spent an extra.... what? $600?[/citation]

The comment was made about the hardware not the price. And I don't really care about the price, knowing the fact that it will last me 4-6 years, I'm more than willing to spend an extra 600$.

Mac has spent millions of dollars stating they are mac and everything else is PC, based upon thier advertising they do not want to be considered PC and that fine with me and it seems HP as well.. so whatever real world definition of a PC we all agree upon is it's apparent Apple does not want to be a part of that title.

I've been using Windows PC's for the last 15 as well, having basically never touched a mac. Last month I got sick and tired of my legs frying and the weight of my latitude laptop which has otherwise served me well. I grabbed a Macbook Air, which is overpriced given the hardware, BUT, considering my purpose it filled it's role brilliantly.

The only thing I need a laptop for is mobile internet beyond what my 4.3" touchscreen cellphone can do. So my only requirements were speed internet surfing, and ULTRA light weight. Since the MBA fits all of these categories brilliantly I am a VERY satisfied customer. The MBA has been out a few years now and still nobody manages to beat it. I was looking forward to this dell laptop and the other ultra portables coming out in the future, but Apple looks like they'll continue to own that crown for years to come.

Apple computers are designed to fill very specific market segments, the kinds other developers overlook and try to encompass in a more general segment. Every laptop manufacturer is scared that if they dont include a dvd drive, or mutliple thumb drives, or video output or something else that they'll get knocked on. Apple is willing to put themselves out there and try to design something new and if it fails, they'll eat the loss. Luckily for them almost every one of their ideas has been a resounding success.

Iphone anyone? I remember coming up with that idea when the first crappy stylus based palm phones were released. I always wondered why no cell phone manufacturer had the balls to design a 100% touch screen phone. It's because they were all scared that the consumer would still want buttons of some kind and that they'd be laughed at. Apple said fuck that, designed a phone and risked a significant portion of their business in doing so. The result? Well we all know, and now every single company tries to rip off their designs.

You'd think I was an apple fanboy, even though I own Android phones and Windows PC's. But I can recognize talent when I see it, and apple has a lot of it.

TA152H beat me too it, some people here don't seem to understand that the term "PC"/"personal computer" entered widespread use from the IBM Personal Computer and IBM-PC compatible platform, the more generic terms of "home computer" and "microcomputer" have since dropped out usage due to the dominance of the IBM-PC platform (there used to be numerous platforms besides just IBM-PC and Apple, like Amiga, Commodore, BBC Microcomputer, etc.)

IBM-PC Compatible got shortened to just "PC" in common vernacular, aided by IBM's decreasing significance in the home market, but the distinction between PC and other types of home computer like Apple has remained until today (most obvious recent example being the Mac vs PC commercials), trying to now retroactively claim PC is a generic term for any home computer, including Macs, is just ignorant and patently false.

That is a philosophy of any sophisticated Apple follower.
Next time just post this in first place so that your opinion is not misunderstood.

[citation][nom]iam2thecrowe[/nom]A Mac is a "PC" which stands for Personal Computer. It would be correct if they had said "Windows PC"[/citation]

PC stopped meaning Personal Computer when Apple started advertising that PC were Windows based systems, and Mac were Apple's system.

It's easy, it works, why do you have a problem with it? Why do other Apple users have a problem with it? Everyone is well aware what people mean when they say PC or Mac, due to the "I'm a PC, I'm a Mac" commercials.

ROFL you're just jealous because you cant afford one. I am an apple follower, I just got the MBP a month ago, other than that I've never owned an Apple product before. That's one, and two, the service has been exceptional, I had to call tech support once and received nothing but great service. Just to give you a cmparable - I work for a bank, doing mortgages, sometimes we cannot match rates with another bank, but client stills stays with us because of the overall product and service they're getting. Same with apple, they've created something, that yes products are overpriced for the hardware, but overall is excellent.

Wow, really? who cares? does it really matter that much? If they were lying about sure, but they aren't, they list the brands they compare it to. And everyone knows people call pc's with windows "PC's" and macs "Macbooks". Even if it's not the thinnest, it's not really a spec that is gonna bother you is it? I mean thin is thin, and it's a laptop not a phone. Your not gonna stick it in your pocket or anything. If they said it's the fastest or had the highest resolution I could understand, but thinnest? Is .02" or whatever really gonna make you say, "gee, I wish I bought a different laptop"?
