Dell XP Operating System In Compaq Presario AMD Duron Need Help Plz!!!

I had to ditch my Dell Optiplex GX400 after 15 years due to noisey fan & faulty motherboard. And will never purchase another Dell again. Due to the fact i forgot i had a Dell Win XP O.S. then installed it into my backup desktop mistakenly. Now i have to purchase another XP O.S this time for my Compaq Presario which is a lot quieter than the outgoing Dell. Question is what Win XP O.S. would work on my Compaq Presario AMD Durion. Do i have to purchase a Compaq Win XP or any Standard Win XP O.S.?? P.S. (After the Dell XP O.S. was installed in the Compaq Presario the screen stated the following message 'A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl + Alt+Del to restart'

Why are you still using Windows XP?

Cause i already have a Win 8 O.S on my Gateway B960 laptop and need to run older programs that can only work on the XP. The XP is for my desktop. Thanks

I don't know if I'd not buy something just because a system failed after 15 years LOL. In fact I'd run to buy another one if it lasted that long.

Just get any XP as long as it's not branded for another model. And try to avoid ebay as they often sell pirated or already used keys.

Disk read error could easily be a hard drive failure though, so a new XP disk won't do you any good if thatsthe case. Did the Dell disk run through the setup with no issues and did that system work OK before you tried to install it?

Did the Compaq come with XP? If so , why would you have to purchase another copy?
