Yes you are right.... forgot that 2nd power connector was there blocking off the 3rd PCIe slot.... its what stopped me installing a 3rd GPU so I should have remembered

I switched out my Q6600 for a 45 nm 9450 and it works great. I have the motherboard in my 720 that you all are talking about it runs my new chip great.

if the bios doesnt regulate the vrms for 45nm youre screwed, not sure what node the 6600 is voltage is key. Huge reason I dont buy established brand premades is the fact that you dont know what TDP the socket is capable of or what the bios can do for VRM with an update.

you should be speaking to dell and not the front office idiots that speak from a manual, best bet is forum surfing for others doing the same

Ok turns out that Dell (must have) put in support for the 45um chips in the A06 Bios update cause the E8500 works great.

That said...

My fans are going nuts and I cannot slow them down with nTune. Any ideas? I will report back if I find a solution.

Could try that. When I unplugged the fans the PC fread out at bootup telling me the case and cpu fan failed, SO I will have to work around that also. But just glad the CPU worked. A little more noise I can deal with I guess.
