Dell XPS 8300 Power Switch...

I have a Dell XPS 8300 that works perfectly for me. Recently the machine has become difficult to start/stop using the power switch. I suspect the switch is failing as it runs fine once you get the power on. This machine uses Dell part # F7M7N which is not like any other switch I have seen (and hard to find new). I'm tempted to just cut out the old switch and wire in a "standard" momentary contact switch. Any idea on how to verify if the switch is actually the problem and will my surgical approach work?

blue and brown = power switch
yellow and black = hdd led
red and white = power led

i believe that black and white are the negative on the leds...
