Hey Guys I was just wonderin if anyone knows if its possible to put a 2.4GHZ P4 533FSB on a Dell 8200 mobo.
*note my dell uses a 1.7 P4 but it doesnt have a regualar heatsink it has an exhaust system. If I put the 2.4 will I need to dismantel the exhaust and put the original heatsink provided with the 2.4?

*ALL ANSWERS Will be very much appreicated

When did you get your computer? I'm currently (until tomorrow if fedex doesn't [-peep-] me) on a 1.7Ghz Dell. I'm pretty sure that you cannot use that 2.4. The williamete (what we have) stopped at 2.0Ghz and then socket 478 came out (someone correct me if I'm wrong). To use that new p4 chip I think you'd need a new motherboard.

This mobo supports only Willamette and Northwood and so the best you can get is 400MHz FSB. According to Dell documentation (I work for DELL) u can actually go for a 2.4GHz 400FSB. But if it supports Northwood, it should be alright with 2.6GHz 400MHz. Regarding the cooling, it does have a heat sink and an exhaust fan below that green cover and you don't have to change it.

Don't forget to flash the BIOS if you got the comp before 10/2002. There is an update released on 10/14/2002.

Actually Intel produced Socket 478 Williamettes during the transition period, to provide an upgrade path (if you bought a Socket 478 system with a 2GHz Willy, you could upgrade to a P4 2.4 Woody, for example).
