[citation][nom]soldier37[/nom] ...If you want sub par just good enough and what everyone else gets... This seems like a nice alternative to a monstrous 30 incher.[/citation]

That's what she said.
am i win?

I agree with Sliem! I mean there is 27" Lg monitor with 1080p resolution and a price tag of 379.99 at Fry's electronics. I mean don't get me wrong. The Dell's a nice monitor, but I don't think the little extra features justify the huge price difference.

It's an IPS panel guys, that's why it costs $1099. The retard who wrote this article failed to mention that. That's the whole reason it costs more.

i think photographers may just go for a 27" iMac. I don't think the resolution is as high, but for $600 more than this monitor, you get a great computer built-in to the display.

I'll stick with my 27inch hp 2709m 1920 x 1080. 600 dollars it not enough to spend for me the difference in pixel density. I bought the u2410 (next size down) and what rubbish that "pro" quality monitor that was. I had never seen such horrid color tints in my life. Half the lcd was green and the other pink. These issues may not be present in this panel but Dell didn't help any of the us 2410 users out, and left us in the dark with our "pro" monitors. I'll take my "low quality" 2709m anyday. I love it.

[citation][nom]micky_lund[/nom]yeah...they're monitors are like double~triple the normal price, but some say they're worth it...up to you really.[/citation]
Not usually, unless you're comparing an IPS/PVA panel to a TN (which isn't really a fair comparison). Dell are priced slightly higher, but not absurdly so. They offer some monitors for the people who don't care about image quality as much but want a large size, high resolution display for fairly cheap (such as the ST2410, 24" 1920x1080 for $190, or the G2410, 24" 1920x1080 LED backlit for $250 or so). This monitor, as well as the U2410, is aimed squarely at people who actually care that their image has accurate color, and that the gamma doesn't shift when you tilt your head 3 degrees to the side. I would gladly pay $1k for this display if I didn't already have an excellent 24" (the Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP), which I can't justify replacing at this point.

$1,099.00 for a 2560 x 1440 27'? Dell is clearly targeting my market because of the cheaper alternative that is eyefinity. But PLEASE someone make thin bezel monitors. Not that current monitors are bad

[citation][nom]sliem[/nom]Ok not for me. I could get 22-24" for under $300 why would I spend $1000 for 3 more inches?[/citation]

Because you want something more than TFT or TN displays... This is an SIPS display meaning it is overall higher quality. Viewing angles are better, contrast is better, etc.

The only downside is it's not LED.

While it will be very hard to tell the difference between this monitor and those $300 ones you speak of without them being side by side, some people want the best quality they can get.

[citation][nom]cnet.com[/nom]Dell used an H-IPS panel to make the U2711... [/citation]

This thing is designed to take on the HP Dreamcolor and the Apple Cinema Display, not your 24" $300 glossy-screen TN panel.

If you rely on your monitor for your income or stare at it all day, then it makes sense to spend more on a better product; it's an investment. The monitor is one of the least upgraded items on a computer, so since you are going to be keeping it for a long time you may as well get something decent.

lololol

so many "but oh it's $1000 versus . I can't imagine people would actually be stupid enough to shell out the extra $700 for a mere 3 inch improvement!!!"

And then there's the people who keep on repeating the differences between IPS and TN panels. PEOPLE! Pearls to swine!!! Leave the fools to their foolishness.

So it turns out that you are actually all mostly right. TN panels are cheap and suck for photographers like myself, IPS panels are the roxxxorz. However! Don't be fooled. I just ordered one of these over the iMac- and here is why.
The IPS panel is great but when paired with the LED backlight actually has a smaller gamut. The LED is not as wide spectrum a light as the CCFL, so you are actually hurting the glory of this panel for the purpose of having an LED.

i have dell u 2711 few months now...spent on it 599 british pounds...and you know what? its resolution and color will kick your jaw out of your head...just run winamp with milkdrop visualization on...you will be watching it instead your virgin or sky TV...will look so amazing!

NO...i repeat..ABSLUTELY NO!...FullHD TV is going to beat u2711 even if its 100 inches guys! because it is still 1920x1080 so the pixels are sh***t.
With this Dell you will have to have used to it a little bit as your first impression will be..."Dammit i can't see these letters...font is so small!" God damn its SMALL! It is SMALL and SHARP as razor is. Best BUY so far guys!......and SO MANY INPUTS!!! hdmi, display, dvi+hdcp (most important!!) you will not be disappointed! /css gamer
