What is the purpose of this revert, other than to find some odd way to
squeeze some last dollars out of a 7 year old title?

And why pick DF1, when DF2 was an improvement over it?

And if it's using a different graphics engine than the original's pixel
one, I assume it will be closer to DFBHD's. In which case, this sounds
like more of a downgraded DFBHD than an upgraded DF1.

They're not named Nologic for nothing!

Who cares?!

DF2 added a major gaming improvement: tall grass. Everything else was
somewhat improved, though scope viewing on some weapons lagged on the
Pentiums back then.

DF2 is an improvement over DF1, unlike Land Warrior, which was a fiasco.

Avon,

Don't a lot of DF purists feel that DF1 was the best of the series?

Yep. The only reason DF2 is looked down upon by some is because it
didn't run as smoothly as DF1.

Note, however, that while tall grass was "added" in DF2 it was
possible in DF1. It just wasn't done until Terranova's EXP.

DF1 was the game that brought many of "US" together.

It will always be regarded favourably and fondly as the greta majority of us
new (at the time) online gamers were finally brought easily into the online
scene via novaworld, after trying and failing with quake and half life etc.

There was an ambience and an atmosphere in DF1 that was lost in DF2 and
never returned to the DF series.
Like a comfy pair of slippers.
The Terranova pack kept it alive longer too.

I fear the same thing is gonna happen with OFP2 if it ever surfaces.

I'd buy "reloaded", just for nostalgias sake and a 2mbit connection, plus a
PC that is 15 X faster than the one I learnt to play DF on :)

In fact, if you check the Gundogs status, you will see very many of the old
names still there, maybe we'll all get together again.

maybe

I agree, but if there is a substantial segment of the DF community that
holds DF1 up as the sacred cow, they may be trying to get THEIR dollars, not
yours.

And maybe with a new engine they have a new idea for grass?

personally I LOVED the voxel engine. It had great potential. And finally we
have PCs capable of doing it justice. I hope it resurfaces.
